Samuel Adams Chocolate Bock

The first time I cracked open a bottle of Samuel Adams Chocolate Bock, was around Christmas time last year. As I poured the beer into my favorite pint glass, I noticed a dark chocolate brown color, followed by a slightly lighter brown head, and almost no lacing. As a man that likes to pull his beer through the foam, I was a little disappointed by the lack of it here, perhaps it was this bottle alone, I can't say that's how every bottle is. Next onwards to the smell. With my pint glass full, I brought my nose to it, and was pleased with the aroma of chocolate malts and an almost nutty undertone. Now for the first pull, I let the beer fill my mouth, and left it there for a brief moment, before swallowing it down. First thought, not bad at all. The sweet chocolate taste was fairly mild at first, and then came on much stronger in the after taste. There were also undertones of caramel, and sort of a nutty almond taste. The beer seems pretty thin, and goes down very smooth without any real alcohol bite to it. I finished up my pint, and when the experience was all said and done, my conclusion was I would definitely drink it again, and would go so far to recommend it to others. Given the sweet taste, I don't know if you would want to drink a few in one sitting, depends how much of a sweet tooth you have. Anyways good work by the folks over at Samuel Adams, I've always enjoyed their beers, and here they did very well too.
